The primary role of the veterinary assistant is helping the veterinarian with procedures (exams/treatments/imaging), helping manage vehicle inventory, and taking notes from the veterinarian during appointments. The veterinary assistant must be capable of a large amount of physical activity, and is expected to maintain professionalism and confidentiality throughout appointments. We are an exclusively mobile equine practice, and the ability to drive to appointments and/or agreed upon meeting place is expected. Mileage reimbursement per the IRS standard rate is offered.

The veterinary assistant/technician position is open to applicants who have excellent horse handling skills, with or without official training in the veterinary field. Salary is commensurate with experience ($20-$35/hour).

The Ideal Candidate Has:

Equine industry experience, applicants should be confident handling athletic horses in hand and on a lunge line.

Veterinary field experience, although this is not required.

The ability to crouch down for radiographs and sterile preparation for joint procedures.

The ability to move up to 50lbs, handling diagnostic equipment (radiograph machine, shockwave, etc.) and manipulating horses (sedated horse head, legs, etc.)​.

Ability to follow directions and take initiative.

Attention to detail.

Task and time management skills.

Valid Driver’s license with good driving record.

Additional Job Expectations:

Maintain a clean work space throughout the appointment and prior to leaving a barn.

Look after equipment during appointments, and return all equipment to vehicle before leaving each appointment.

Assist with office work as needed, an iPad will be provided with access to COVETRUS Pulse (online veterinary software).

Assist doctors in maintaining vehicle supply stock on all vehicles.
